Founded in Bundaberg, Black Lab Finance was built on a simple idea — to give Queenslanders access to expert lending advice without the complexity, jargon, or “big bank runaround.”

Why ‘Black Lab’?

The business name was inspired by Jake’s much-loved black lab, Monty — because just like a loyal lab, he’s here to guide you through every step of your home loan journey.

Jacob ‘Jake’ Arden is the founder of Black Lab Finance — your local mortgage broker in Bundaberg. With a background in accounting, business, and banking, and expertise in complex lending and first-home buyers, Jake helps clients find the best loan solutions tailored to their needs. He holds a Business Degree and Postgraduate Certificates in Applied Law, equipping him with the knowledge to navigate finance, contracts, and negotiations — so clients don’t have to. His goal is simple: to make the home loan process stress-free, straightforward, and successful for every client. As a Bundaberg local with a young family, Jake understands the importance of making smart financial decisions. Black Lab Finance was inspired by his much-loved black lab, Monty — because just like a loyal lab, Jake is there to guide clients every step of the way.

Every time we hit a hurdle or need advice, Jake is more than happy to lend his knowledge or assist. Most recently we were advised incorrect information from a lender regarding a refund for our LMI, unfortunately it left us with a tight timeframe to refinance - we felt deflated and let down by our or... iginal bank. Regardless,Jake somehow managed to get us refinanced on the day it was due in order for us to get our partial refund!
Let’s not stop there, he also, in this same time frame, arranged another re-valuation with our new bank and was able to get us additional funds on our loan. Ultimately, we now have a more competitive interest rate (meaning repayments are similar to what we were originally paying), the same year terms as our previous lender, a substantial LMI refund coming and additional funds for further improvements. Jake brought calm reassurance to what can be a stressful process in purchasing an investment property and refinancing an existing loan. He knows the market and his products, and we always felt that he was working to get the best deal for us. Timely contact and a clear process made everything seamles... s. He has good contacts and a great reputation locally (both my solicitor and the selling agent were relieved when I mentioned that he was sorting our finance) and he got the deal done within 24 hours from the submission of our application.
